Stanton Macdonald-Wright Biography: He ran away from home at the age of 11 and ended up in California. Along with fellow artist Morgan Russell he founded a painting style known as "Synchronism." When he completed his studies in Paris he returned to Los Angeles where he became the Director of the Art Students League and oversaw the WPA arts program in the western USA. His interest in Cubism and Buddhism led him to Japan which would become his second home.
