John Henry Twachtman Biography: He was the son of German immigrant parents. While attending art school he made the acquaintance of the artist Frank Duveneck who
invited him to paint at his studio. Together they traveled to Europe to continue their art education. When they returned to the states Twachtman
took up residence in New York's Washington Square. In 1879 he returned to Cincinnati to teach. After another visit to Europe to further his education
Twachtman returned to the states where he first worked in Chicago and then once again moved to the east coart, where he spent much time painting with
Alden Weir near Weir's Branchville, Connecticut home. In 1889 he became an instructor at the Art Students League in New York. In 1890 he purchased
a home and property in Greenwich, Connecticut.
