During the 1950's and early '60s the U.S. was the major force in the music industry. Phil Spector's girl groups and folk music filled the airwaves, but all that would change starting in 1964
with the invasion of British groups like the Dave Clark 5 and the Beatles. This event had a huge impact on pop music. American folk, rock, R&B, Doowop and girl groups which
had dominated the charts from the mid '50s on suddenly found themselves challenged for air time. As a result folk morphed into folk/rock and eventually psychedelic rock, Motown was born and
the girl groups, R&B and folk music all but disappeared.
The '60s also marked the advent of an entirely new art form, the Psychedelic Poster. Poster art was everywhere especially in head shops which specialized in selling drug paraphernalia and psychedelic posters mostly but not entirely
