Peter Paul Rubens Biography: One of the great masters of the art world. He was born into a family of Calvinists. After his father's death he was
raised a Catholic. In 1600 he traveled to Italy where he joined the court of Duke Vincenzo Gonzaga in Mantua. While in Italy he studied and copied the paintings
of the Italian masters. In 1609 he was appointed court painter to Regent Albert and Isabella. While in Antwerp he received a flood of commissions. In 1621 he
received his largest commission for a series of 21 paintings for Marie de’Medici, the Queen Dowager of France, widow of Henry IV.
