Fernand Leger Biography: In school he studied architecture and worked as an apprentice draftsman. By 1911 he had made the acquintance of both Braque and Picasso. He became involved in Le Courbousier's Purist movement with his glossy paintings of high tech machinery. He experimented making lithographic prints of his work. In 1940 he immigrated to the United States to escape the advancing German armies. He taught at his own school Academie de l’Art Contemporain, Yale University and Mills College in California.
