Edward Hopper Biography: Although he had already decided to become an artist while still in his teens, Hopper was a late bloomer in the art world. After
he completed his studies he fulfilled his dream of travelling in Europe hoping for some chance meeting with one of the great European artists, but he returned disappointed. He was forced
to earn his living as an illustrator and began making and selling prints. It was during this period that he became an accomplished watercolorist finding them easier to sell than oils. It
was not until he was in his late thirties and early forties that he began to make his mark in the art world. He settled in New York's Greenwich Village. Died: 1967
