Meindert Hobbema Biography: He was born Meindert Lubbertsz but later changed his surname to Hobbema. His mother died when he was a child and he along with two younger siblings were placed in an orphanage. He specialized in painting the heavily wooded landscapes of the eastern Netherlands. He also loved to paint farmhouses, dirt roads and windmills.
