Comments: He was Rembrandt's most outstanding student. He was born into a family of a schoolmaster and amateur artist.
In 1650 he moved to Delft where he died tragically in the explosion of a municipal powder store which destroyed a good portion of the city. Also perishing with him was the greater part of his work.
