Eddie Fisher Biography: Eddie Fisher was to Al Jolson as Perry Como was to Bing Crosby. In fact, his nickname was Sonny Boy. He entered the music business during that age between the big band sounds of the '40s and the rock era. At 18 he began singing with the bands of Buddy Morrow and Charlie Ventura. He gained national exposure, in 1949, on Eddie Cantor's radio show. He was signed to a recording contract by RCA Records and had a string of hit records starting in 1952 including "Thinking Of You," "Wish You Were Here," "Lady Of Spain," "I'm Walking Behind You," "Oh My Pa-Pa" "I Need You Now," "Heart" and "Dungaree Doll." In 1952-53 he served in the US Armed Forces Special Services. After his release he became a very popular night club performer and hosted his own television programs Coke Time and the Chesterfield Supper Club with George Gobel. By the mid '50s Fisher had transcended the label of recording star and had become a full blown celebrity especially with his marriage to rising Hollywood star Debbie Reynolds, both of whom appeared in the film Bundle of Joy. His next acting effort would be with Liz Taylor in the 1960 film Butterfield 8, shortly after which he divorced Debbie and married Liz. During the 1960s he was besieged by financial and drug problems as well as yet another failed marriage to actress Connie Stevens. He is the father of Hollywood actress Carrie Fisher.
