Mary Cassatt Biography: She was born in a small suburban town outside of Pittsburgh to an affluent businessman. When she completed her art education she traveled extensively in Europe finally settling in Paris, France the home of her ancestors. She would spend the rest of her life in France. She provided financial aid to her fellow Impressionisst by urging her brother and her friends the Havermeyers to purchase the works of such artists as Monet, Manet, Renoir and Morisot. Her work was mostly figurative paintings depicting people at everyday life chores, usually involving mother and child.
Died: June 14, 1926
