Gustave Caillebotte Biography: He was born wealthy and was an engineer by trade. He was a patron of his fellow Impressionists. After meeting Edgar Degas, Claude Monet, and Pierre Auguste Renoir in 1874 he helped organize the first Impressionist exhibit later that year. He participated in some of the later shows. During his life he produced some 500 works. Until recently his work was usually ignored.
Died: February 21, 1894
