Adriaen Brouwer Biographies: He specialized in genre paintings usually of taverns and inns in small towns inhabited by the local peasant population. He also did some portrait work as well as landscapes. He had difficulty earning a living as an artist and was always in debt. One of his greatest admirers was Peter Paul Rubens who owned several of his paintings.
