Georges Braque

Born: May 13, 1882
City and Country of Origin: Argenteuil-sur-Seine, France

Art Training: craftsman's certificate from a master decorator in Paris; Academie Humbert in Paris
Exhibitions: Salon des Indépendants in Paris; Daniel-Henri Kahnweiler’s gallery in 1908; Salon d’Automne in Paris
Awards: First Prize at the Carnegie International, Pittsburgh, in 1937
Major Works: "Roche Guyon, 1909," "Round Table," "Still Life with Grapes and Clarinet"
Georges Braque Biography: He moved to Paris in 1900 to study in the birthplace of Fauvism. His earliest style was Impressionistic but by 1906 he had adopted the style of the Fauvists. After 1909 he worked together with Pablo Picasso to develop the Cubist style of painting. After he was wounded in World War I he left the military and began a close friendship with Juan Gris. After the late 1920s his work once again became more realistic.
Died: August 31, 1963
