Francois Boucher Biography: Boucher was a master draftsman and painter. The fact that he had mastered every aspect of painting from portraiture to landscape with his extraordinary deft skill with a brush probably would have earned him a place in history next to the likes of Rembrandt and Velazquez had he not been part of a very particular form of eighteenth century Baroque art commonly known as Rococo. This superficial art style was extremely popular in France and is exemplified by its frivolous depiction of sensuous coquettish beauties and cute little plump cherubs.
Died: 1770
